I do not know whether people will believe or not but I am saying the truth. Irom Sharmila is a woman in Manipur who has been protesting against the extra power and excessive activities of the army personals in their state. Well, Manipur is a north eastern state of India and Irom Chanu Sharmila is a 34 years old woman who was shocked by an unfortunate incident in Manipur. She has been defending for the human rights in the state since late 2000. Now it has been complete seven years that she has been protesting to restore the human rights to the people of Manipur. Manipur is in complete chaos with different groups of rebellions and many insurgency cases. The government of Manipur along with the central government announced the special power act in Manipur according to this army personnel can follow any step and can take any action when they suspect someone for some activities. An incident happened in Malom Tulihal, Manipur in which soldiers shoot 10 young men at a bus stop in Manipur. But it was claimed that all the 10 young men was innocent. Irom Sharmila started her fasting since this incident because of the consequences in the state after the extra power given to the army. She is the complete icon for manipuri people and now many world organizations are also supporting her protest to preserve the human rights.

Recently, the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) is one of the largest network of NGOs which helps people who are fighting for human rights selected Irom Chanu Sharmila as a part of the sponsorship project called “Defending the Defenders”. They are defending those people are defending human rights. When Sharmila started her fasting, she was arrested by the police force with the charge of attempt to murder. And then authorities have been forcibly performing nasal feeding since then. She hasn’t taken any food since she started her fasting but continues nasal feeding. It is just like Mahatma Gandhi of Manipur and she is trying to fight for the human rights by complete non-violence. And now she has half succeeded because many world organizations have already response to her fasting and her step towards preserving human rights. She is a woman who has sacrificed her whole life for preserving human rights. She is doing not only for Manipur but for all the humans in this world. According to the “Defending the Defenders” of OMCT, they will fight for the defenders if something wrong happens to the defenders or protesters. Another well-known Norwegian designer Lars Muller, who has lived in Switzerland for years, is also supporting Sharmila and her works.
